Market Day Concert
Heading to Cupar for the Market? On Saturday 15 November, St James the Great Episcopal Church will once again host a ‘Market Day’ concert and all are welcome …
The concert, beginning at 12 noon, will be performed by the University of St Andrews Scholarship Brass Ensemble, one of a number of auditioned University groups who benefit from weekly individual and ensemble tuition.
The ensemble will perform a typically varied programme of brass arrangements, including music by Sir Edward Elgar and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies as well as the early English composer Giles Farnaby and the great 20th century Russian Dmitri Shostakovich.
Chris Bragg, one of the organists at St James’ Church and Head of Programming at the University of St Andrews Music Centre is delighted to be building bridges, saying: “We’ve been thrilled at the large and enthusiastic audiences our Market Day concerts at St James have generated.” He adds: “They are an ideal opportunity for visitors to Cupare to experience a short programme of outstanding music in the beautiful surroundings of the historic Rowand Anderson church. I am very grateful to our talented brass students at the Music Centre for coming to Cupar and once again filling our church with sonorous sounds.”
The concert is free. A retiring collection will be taken “to help defray costs”.
There will be refreshments, including home baking, served at the conclusion.
