Cupar’s BIG Tidy Returns!

The BIG Tidy – the project delivered by Cupar Development Trust with “a small army of community support” in 2024 returns next month (Monday 21st September) – and the Trust once again calls for volunteers and your input.

The 2024 campaign resulted from community feedback supporting Cupar’s Community Action Plan and Youth Charette. One of residents’ top priorities was making the town look cleaner and smarter.

Trust Chair, Jim Hair, explains: “The hope is that we will make Cupar more attractive to residents, shoppers and visitors and raise expectations and standards across the town centre.”

Many hands …

Two years ago, many across our community stepped up to help – rolling up their sleeves to support the tidying up initiative. A short video (below) captured the work involved and demonstrated that many hands make light work!

Blooming great!

Cupar in Bloom has offered to help once again – and volunteers from their group will be joining others on Monday 21st September to tackle tidying areas in the town identified as in need of some TLC.

Fife Council is supporting the project again with their Street Cleansing team and will help with some of the equipment required as well as in clearing materials at the end of the day.

The whole community …

Jim explains that the Big Tidy is keen to involve the whole community in the project. He explains: “We are also seeking volunteers from the community to help with simple tasks – such as litter picking, weeding, tidying, scrubbing hard-to-reach areas and more.” Anyone wanting to volunteer would be asked to help with a “relaxed two hour work session” with refreshments provided at the end.

Big fun …

Jim adds that all of those involved want the Big Tidy to be “fun and sociable and inclusive for all ages“.  To that end, volunteers will be working in teams on the day – meeting at 0945 and taking on identified tasks that suit both availability and ability.

Walk the walk …

For anyone interested in volunteering, there will be a ‘walk the walk‘ session on Thursday 17th September when all will gather at a venue in town – to be confirmed – and walk a route to see the areas that will be included in the tidy on the following Monday. More will be shared on this nearer the time.

Volunteers interested in helping with the Big Cupar Tidy but who are unable to attend the ‘walk the walk’ session are asked to email Cupar Development Trust via this email link and to give:

  • Your name
    • Written parent/guardian details and consent if U18 on the 21/09/26
  • The time you are available on Monday 21st September so we can allocate people to tasks
  • Any specific tidying tasks that appeal so we can allocate tasks suitably
  • Any other information we need to know to help us plan your time

Jim concludes: “Our aim is to improve the lives of the Cupar community. This is a great opportunity to make a visible difference to our town … so please roll up your sleeves and lend a hand!
