Who makes a difference in Cupar?

We all know someone who makes life in Cupar that little bit better. The person who turns up, lends a hand and gets things done. The volunteer who gives their time week after week. The young person whose kindness, energy or determination makes a difference to others. They might never seek recognition themselves. But you can help make sure their contribution is recognised.

Cupar Community Council is inviting nominations for Cupar Citizen of the Year 2026 and Cupar Young Citizen of the Year 2026 — an opportunity to celebrate local people who give their time and talents to our town.

Someone spring to mind?

Perhaps they help keep a community group going, support neighbours, care for shared spaces or bring people together. Perhaps they have taken on a particular challenge, or quietly helped others over many years.

These are examples of the contributions you might want to celebrate.

What matters is telling the Community Council what your nominee has done, why it makes a difference and what makes them deserving of the award.

And do think about the younger people in our community. If you know a young person making a positive contribution to Cupar, this is a chance to show them that their efforts are noticed and appreciated.

How to nominate

Nomination forms are available from Cupar ‘Y’, Marathon House, 93 Bonnygate, Cupar. The form asks:

  • How you know your nominee
  • What they have done
  • How long they have been doing it and
  • Whether their contribution is through an organised or voluntary group

Give specific examples where you can.

You do not need grand words: a clear account of someone’s contribution, and the difference it has made, will help explain why you feel they deserve recognition. Speak to your nominee too — the form asks whether you have sought their permission to submit it.

There are a few eligibility points to check:

  • You cannot nominate a family member
  • The nominee must live in Cupar
  • The service being recognised must take place within Cupar
  • Those who have received payment for that service cannot be nominated

Get your nomination in before 30 October

Completed forms must be received before 30 October 2026.

Place your form in a sealed envelope addressed to: Chairperson, Cupar Community Council

Mark it “Cupar Citizen of the Year 2026 Nomination” or “Cupar Young Citizen of the Year 2026”, as appropriate.

Hand it in at Cupar YMCA-YWCA, Marathon House, 93 Bonnygate, Cupar, KY15 4LG.

The Community Council will treat nominations and selection discussions confidentially.

If someone came to mind while you were reading this, take the next step!
