No strings attached …
Heading to the Cupar Market this month (Saturday 18th October)? Take a short walk along St Catherine Street to discover and enjoy a free concert being held at St James the Great Episcopal Church …
The church will host its second Market Day Concert at noon on the 18th – organised to coincide with the Cupar Market on Crossgate.
It will be given by two of the area’s most distinguished musicians, violinist Angus Anderson and organist Robin Bell, and will include music by Elgar, Massenet and Williams.
Angus Anderson has enjoyed a career with Scotland’s most prominent orchestras, having been leader of the orchestra of Scottish Opera and Associate leader of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He was also a member at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia in London.
Robin Bell is a former Assistant Organist at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh and taught at both Madras College and St Leonard’s School in St Andrews. He is a former conductor of Cupar Choral Society and accompanist of East Fife Male Voice Choir. His contribution to Scottish church music was recognised with an honorary award from the Royal School of Church Music during a special service at Salisbury Cathedral in 2009.
The Rev Sarah Miller, Rector of St James Church is delighted to be hosting another market concert. “Following our hugely successful concert in the Spring with vocal quartet the Hepburn Four, we’re honoured and grateful that Angus and Robin have agreed to come and play for us on 18 October as we once again welcome the Cupar community into our beautiful church.”
The concert will last for 30 minutes and tea/coffee and refreshments will be served afterwards. Admission is free with a retiring collection to defray costs.
