In the latest of our business profiles, we focus on Double A … “the leading equipment suppliers to the Scottish groundcare industry“. We caught up with Sandy Armit, Managing Director, to discover more …

The company was founded in 1996. Sandy had worked in the industry for some years and saw a gap in the market where a professional turf dealership could be established. He explains: “The business started from the Armit household and is now the largest groundcare supplier in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK.”

In the last 27 years, it has grown. “We have three outlets – Cupar as well as Kintore in Aberdeenshire and Busby covering Glasgow” all supplying a wide range of new and used machinery.

Sandy says: “We supply equipment to some of the world’s most famous golf courses, stadiums and landmarks – as well as local authorities, homeowners and estates.” He adds: “These valued customers have chosen to rely on our knowledgeable sales team to identify the correct machine for their operation and our experienced service and parts team to supply parts, servicing and repairs as required throughout the life of their equipment.”

Today, the company employs 45 people – and it is their people that Sandy sees as their greatest asset, saying: “We sell quality products and deliver a service that we believe to be second to none. But that wouldn’t happen without our team. They are professional and dedicated.”

 

That dedication has led to industry recognition through the years – and Sandy is proud that the company has collected key accolades including the UK Professional Turf Dealer of the Year award. He sees their greatest achievement being the business that they win – “being the preferred supplier to the majority of prestigious sporting clubs across Scotland“.

As with all those who feature on our Blog profiles, we asked Sandy what he would recommend to someone visiting Cupar for the fiurst time – or for the first time in a long time: “Firstly check out Double A of course! And I recommend the coffee and cakes at Cupar Tea Room on Ferguson Square.” An A+ answer if ever there was one!
