What’s behind the number 58 …

58 Bonnygate has been transformed in the last 12 months to create … well … what has been created? We caught up with Founder & Director, Alvina Menzies together with Marianne Berghuis, 58’s Facilities & Events Supervisor, to discover more …

When 58 Bonnygate opened a year ago, it announced that it was “a new co-working and community hub in the heart of Cupar. A place for small business owners & individuals to come together to reconnect, inspire each other & thrive.

Alvina says: “That was very much my hope. After all that we’d experienced in the previous two years, I was wanting to ‘put something back’ – to create a sustainable business that would enable and help others.

She had the idea in September 2021: “I remember vividly the moment when I first visited the beautiful Ivy Room, looking out to the large garden area and I suddenly had a powerful heartwarming feeling and the vision of a building full of like minded small business owners working together, reconnecting after the long pandemic months, inspiring each other and thriving together.” A few months of very hard work followed – “reinventing 58’s amazing rooms” – and by April 2022, the doors were ready to open.

Wellbeing Hub …

As restrictions eased and people started to meet up, 58 Bonnygate acted as a magnet, attracting many from the health and social care sector who wanted a space where they could provide services to help … especially for those who had been so affected by lockdowns. Psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, yoga and meditation practitioners all made 58 their ‘home’ using the shared, co-working spaces on a regular, part-time basis …

Marianne explains: “There was a natural gravitation and the property’s popularity spread through Alvina’s hard work and word of mouth generated by a great deal of social media engagement and sharing.

Week by week, month by month, the permanent work spaces filled up.

Inspire & Thrive

Twelve months on – and one of the reasons for writing this Blog – Alvina is keen to revisit her original goal and to dispel some myths! She says: “The very nature of our timing, the beautiful property and the world in which we found ourselves has created the amazing mix of businesses using the property, but we are not only a place for wellbeing practitioners, as much as we love and welcome the fact that 58 has become such a welcoming space.

Marianne says: “The original aim – to create a place for small business owners & individuals to come together to reconnect, inspire each other & thrive – remains. We now have six permanent businesses renting space as well as a further eight who rent space on a part-time basis.” She adds: “In the last year, we have helped to host more than 40 events that have supported an additional 10 businesses – events that have attracted over 700 visitors.” Their events’ calendar is online and is updated regularly.

Spaces to rent …

Almost all of the permanent spaces are now gone. Alvina says: “We only have one permanent shared office space left to rent. Could it be yours?

The property has a series of rooms that are available to hire …
