Remembering Remembrance …

Thank you to all who attended this year’s Remembrance Day service at the war memorial on Sunday (9th). Our local Branch of Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) has asked us to share this note …

Following the very well attended Remembrance Parade in Cupar on Sunday 9 November, Cupar Branch RBLS would like to pass on their thanks to the following people for their help and support this year.

The Deputy Lieutenant for Fife; our local MP and MSP; local councillors; our local clergy; the University of St Andrews; the prefects and house captains from Bell Baxter High School; Cupar food bank, and the wealth of community organisations and services that were on parade to lay wreaths.

Cupar’s own Army Reserve Squadron, C (Fife and Forfar / Scottish Horse) Sqn, Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry, were as always immaculate on parade – once again accompanied by members of their paired regular army unit, C Sqn of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.  We must thank both Sqns for turning up in large numbers and also for providing the honour guard, the parade marshal and the bugler.

We are also very grateful for the ongoing support of the Cupar and District Pipe Band.

Thanks also Charlie Anderson and his team for running the PA system for us, and to Fife Council for access to the power supply and chairs from the park.

We say this every year but it remains the case that it would not be possible to hold the parade in front of the war memorial as we do, without Police Scotland providing officers to cover our road closure.   We are very conscious of the strain on public resources at present, so remain profoundly grateful for their assistance again this year.

Thanks must also go to the emergency services and everyone else who assisted in providing first aid to those who needed it during the service.

Lastly and most importantly, we should thank the people of Cupar for turning up in their hundreds on a cold and wet November morning to remember the fallen.

Thank you for reading.
