Cupar’s Market – Summer 2023

What a great response to the new market that was launched last month (June) by Markets Between Two Firths … and we’re looking forward to this Saturday’s return (Saturday 15th July).

Markets Between Two Firths, run by Elaine Patullo, is delivering a diverse event that will now take place on the third Saturday of each month in Cupar’s Crossgate. Elaine tells us: “We will have independent producers and creatives, fresh produce and food, handmade crafts and homewares – all with a local and Scottish focus.

And on that focus, Elaine has an eye on sustainability.

Branching out …

The Market is promoting ‘no single-use plastics‘, ‘reduce, reuse and recycle‘ – and is also planting trees. Elaine explains: “We have established a tree grove with Trees for Life UK and a tree will be planted for each market we run in order to address our impact and that of our stallholders on the carbon footprint associated with our markets.”  Trees For Life UK plant trees from a healthy range of native species to contribute to the health and biodiversity of forests which will be rich in wildlife and protected for future generations. Currently, Trees for Life UK are planting trees in the Scottish Highlands with ones contributed through corporate groves being planted in Glen Affric where they have been rewilding for over 25 years.

On the right road …

Elaine acknowledges the hiccup in June when – following the guidance from the road closure orders – there was some confusion on the evening before the market. But that has been addressed and the road closures will now be in place from very early on the morning of the market, not the night before.

The image below shows the road closure information. Elaine stresses that if any business in the town centre has any questions, they can email her via this link and she will do all she can to reply as promptly as possible.

Need more?

  • Pitch perfect: the market is looking to work with existing producers and creatives who are used to exhibiting at markets and shows. Elaine explains: “Stallholders will be hiring at outdoor ‘pitch’ – 3m x 3m in size – and they can set up their own gazebo and trading area within that allocated space.”  That ‘set up ‘ will be from 0830 on the Saturday – and all will be dismantled and cleared by 1530.
  • Your pitch: each 3m x 3m market pitch will be £60.00 – payable in advance to Markets Between Two Firths.
  • On track: to comply with GDPR legislation, all stallholders must complete the Markets Between Two Firths’ application form (just click on the image below) and provide insurance, food pass and hygiene certificates.
  • In addition, all stallholder risk assessments must include gazebo setup and dismantling. Once ready, stallholders send all of their documents together with a maximum of four photos showing their produce and stall set-up to this email link. Elaine says: “We will then contact you to discuss your application and to give you information about market date availability, and how to book and pay.

Start me up …

Many of those attending the market are established businesses. Elaine is looking to help start-up businesses too – so if you fit the bill but have never traded a market before, please do get in touch and she will do all she can to help and accommodate you. Just click on the image above to make your application.

Community support …

CuparNow has sponsored community stalls at the markets in Cupar through 2022 and up until the April market of this year.

We were delighted to sponsor the stall for Cupar Y and Cupar Youth cafe at the June market.

“Many thanks indeed for sponsoring our stall at the Market on Saturday. It was a very positive experience for us – really good to engage with the public at this event and share lots of info.  Elaine and the team were excellent, so helpful and made things very easy for us.”

Norma Graham, Cupar Y

We have a number of community groups ‘on plan’ for the rest of the year. If you run a community group and would like a stall at the market – sponsored by CuparNow – just get in touch by emailing us via this link. Thank you!
