The best ingredients. The best ice cream.

Cupar will soon feature as the 21st Century Market town at the heart of a Food & Drink Trail. In support of this project, we will be showcasing many of the town’s tempting treats over the coming weeks and months. As a taster, we thought we’d share this gem … a video clip that’s stood the test of time!

Vince Fasaro runs Luvians on Bonnygate. His parents – Arduino and Amelia – opened their first café in 1955 in the heart of the Irvine Valley where his father started making his own ice cream.

In 1961 – having driven the length of the UK from Alness to Brighton looking for potential premises for a new family shop – the Fusaros moved to Fife and took over a café in Cupar, complete with Venetian mirrors and marble tables.

In 1973, Vince headed to back to Italy – to Sicily – where he taught at the University of Messina. His “love for ice cream grew … exponentially!” Once back in Fife, the Luvians name grew with the opening of “Baby Luvians” just a few doors down from the family café. The shop sold confectionery and ice cream that was made on the premises. Vincent and his brothers – Tony and Luigi – started to take on more of the day to day management from their parents.

The Luvians name continued to grow. The Bottleshop in Cupar became the flagship store – the family growing a well-earned reputation as one of Scotland’s best suppliers of the finest quality wines, whiskies and spirits – and a bigger, purpose-built ice cream factory was established.

The family now has more than half a century of ice cream making experience. As Vince says on the video clip: “If you start off with good ingredients and you follow a proper process and do it with a great passion and a love for what you are doing … 99.9% of the time you’ll come out with a very good product at the end of it.” They sure do!
