Some businesses in Cupar can trace their origins back generations … others are brand new. All play a part in helping to make the town a successful and vibrant place to live, work and play. One new business that has launched this year is building on the rise in ‘staycations’ post the easing of restrictions: we caught up with co-owners Stuart Campbell and Nicky Swinton to discover more …

Eden Valley Campers is a small, family-run camper van rental company that opened in April (2021).

What sparked the move to open the new business? Stuart says: “We own our own camper van and know how popular and fun it can be holidaying in our beautiful country. There is so much to explore.” He adds: “We have other business interests but wanted to diversify. The ‘staycation’ market has grown enormously, so we decided to capitalise on the growth … launching our own rental business.”

Their vans are brand new. Each sleeps four and all have hot and cold running water with “all the usual refinements of a modern VW Camper Van“.

Nicky explains: “The new business is a coming together of two families who have a passion for campers and have invested in the opportunity – one is an electrical contractor and the other, a vehicle accident/service repair centre.”

Combined, they’ve invested in VW vans: “Our vans are specifically VW and are all new. VW has a long standing history going back 40 plus years and the VW Camper is always popular with Camper Vaners.”

Launching any business in the last 18  months has been a real challenge. Stuart is especially proud that they’ve set up Eden Valley Campers during the pandemic: “Being successful from the get go has been very encouraging and satisfying.”

As with all of our Blog features, we ask what is recommended for someone visiting Cupar for the first time, or for the first time in a long time? “Have a leisurely stroll through the town, taking in all the nice wee local shops … and if it’s nice weather, take a picnic or takeaway to the park. It’s a great place to sit and chill watching the world go by.”
