Jane Crockett, the very popular manager of the local Café and Bookshop, The Lighthouse on Bonnygate, has decided to hang up her pinafore and retire after 25 years service to The Lighthouse and the Cupar Community.

It was just before Christmas in 1987 when The Lighthouse started, creating a meeting place where people could “talk” and be of help to others.

Jane arrived as a part-time assistant ’96 and was appointed to the position of Manager a year later.

She has not only run The Lighthouse successfully but has continually worked to maintain and improve the building, playing a lead role in the exterior renovations in 2017, which greatly improved not only the building but the Bonnygate and Cupar. Many individuals, local churches and groups donated to the fund to make this happen and to demonstrate their appreciation of the work done by Jane and her team at The Lighthouse.

Under her leadership, The Lighthouse has grown and developed with generations of Cupar people finding something special within its doors. Jane has helped and supported countless individuals and families through her work. She always had a listening ear and helped in any way she felt she and The Lighthouse could.

Many more cafes have opened over the years, changing the market in many ways – and Jane has led the adaptions needed to cope with this.

The Lighthouse Trustees and staff made a presentation to Jane at her home (below) to recognise her 25 years of service and dedication.

Jane is now looking forward to spending more time with her family and enjoying working in her garden. The Lighthouse will reopen as soon as Covid-19 restrictions allow under the new management of Elizabeth Simmers, who has worked alongside Jane over many years.
