Christmas appeal! Can you help?
So many people are having to chop and change their plans this Christmas. Rosturk House, the care home on Carslogie Road, is no exception. Their activities co-ordinator, Morven Watson, is looking for help in the Christmas countdown …
Morven contacted us to explain that residents are really missing their families and friends … and are obviously not able to get out and about. Morven says: “It is taking its toll on everyone but we want to do everything we can to help bring some Christmas cheer.” Rosturk has had to cancel plans for their traditional Christmas Fayre and have not yet put up their Christmas trees due to waiting further advice from authorities. It is a very tough time … so we’re hoping you can help!
Calling Cupar’s Troopers!
Back at the start of lockdown, we highlighted a whole range of people and businesses who were nominated by our readers as ‘Cupar Troopers’ – those who had gone the extra mile to helping some of the most vulnerable in our community. Well now we are looking for more Troopers – Santa’s little helpers – to spread some much-needed cheer for the residents at Rosturk!
Morven and the Rosturk team want to add some seasonal sparkle to the home’s garden. Morven says: “We are trying to do up the garden to add a bit of brightness. We are hoping to make wreaths for the doors and to do a Cinderella pantomime performed by the staff … but we need props and materials to make our dreams come true!“

Rosturk House is built on the site of the former Gilliesfaulds fruit farm. It is believed that the name Gilliesfaulds was derived from the words “Gillies” being cattle herders, and “faulds” meaning folds of fields. When cattle were being driven through Cupar, the Gillies spent the night in the Inn on Carslogie Road and their cattle stayed in the nearby folds of fields, thus Gilliesfaulds.
Joseph Hood and his family moved to Gilliesfaulds farm in September 1939, the week that World War II was declared. They farmed there until they sold the farm in 1974. After various owners, Rosturk House Ltd purchased 1.7 acres of land from the farmer in 2000 while Bett’s purchased the remainder of the land and created “The Drum” housing estate.
Rosturk House opened it’s doors to clients on 11th October 2004. Many staff at Rosturk House have fond memories as school children picking berries at Gilliesfaulds during their summer holidays. Originally built as a 40 bed care home, 14 bedrooms and further sitting areas were added in 2016 to provide improved accommodation and the opportunity for quieter lounges where Residents can meet with relatives in privacy.
