In such tough times, it is wonderful to see businesses opening and investment being made in the town. We caught up with Cupar’s newest takeaway on Bonnygate to welcome them …

Kuku’s Peri Peri Grill & Desserts is a small family business who are “delighted” to have opened in Cupar. “We saw a niche in the market for healthy takeaway food and the opportunity to serve the community of Cupar Peri Peri – our homeland’s favourite dish!”

The new hot food takeaway is located at 42 Bonnygate and opened earlier this month (October 2020).

The family has always had a passion for cooking. Kuku is selling all manner of dishes that you’d expect at a takeaway – burgers, wraps and sides, but it is their peri-peri chicken that steals the show. The secret is in their own mix of handcrafted spices – and they invite customers to discover their favourite: “You can see how hot you want to go … Mild, Medium, Hot, Lemon and Herb … or Extreme!”

The business is employing four local staff. Owner, Ansaar Younis, explains that may increase – depending how busy they become.

Last year, he ran a half-marathon – his greatest personal achievement to date. We asked what was the best business achievement – apart from launching Kuku in such a challenging climate. Ansaar says: “We have managed to secure a partnership with Dundee’s Redberry who have won awards for being among the very best ice creams in Scotland. We’re very proud to be able to offer this award-winning ice cream to be enjoyed by Kuku’s customers in Cupar.”

Finally, as with all of our profiles on businesses, we asked what Ansaar would recommend to someone visiting Cupar for the first time – or for the first time in a long time: “I would highly recommend to visit the Scottish Deer Centre when they re-open.”
