No room at the Inn?

There’s nowhere to stay in Cupar … at least, that’s what many folk tell us. But we know there are guest houses, self-catering apartments and B&Bs with more than 100 beds available, all within an easy walk of the centre – and some are smack, bang right in the middle of town. We took a walk to discover a few and to highlight what’s on offer.

So when you next hear anyone say “there’s nowhere to stay” you can point them in the right direction …

Burgh Chambers

Cupar Burgh Chambers is in an iconic Grade B listed building that’s recently undergone a stunning restoration as part of the CARS projectCARS is the acronym for the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme with 1m awarded to Cupar by Historic Scotland. The work at the old Burch Chambers has created a fantastic two bedroom self-catering apartment that sleeps up to eight: bedroom 1 has a King size bed with additional single bed if required. Bedroom 2 can be set up as a Super King or two singles. A sofa bed is available in the living room area and a travel cot is available for either room.

The rooms are furnished in keeping with the history of the building, yet have all the mod cons you’ll need. There’s a magnificent living-come-dining area on the 1st floor with a large bay window. A kitchenette is in the main living space and has all you need – fridge, freezer, dish washer, kettle, toaster and microwave. The apartment alsoi includes a Smart TV, DVD player, books, board games, hair dryer – and there’s free Wi-Fi. Linen, towels, electricity and heating are included – and so are all the little touches – hand wash, dishwashing soap & tablets, washing machine liquid/ powder, dishcloths, sponges, salt and pepper!

Every piece of furniture purchased for has been carefully thought through. Fife Historic Buildings Trust were helped by a recognised expert in Scottish furniture who advised on key pieces appropriate to the Georgian period – some originally made in Cupar. Moatville

On North Union Street – a quiet residential street just off the town centre where there’s free on street parking. The Victorian house has been modernised and has some lovely original features including high ceilings and bay windows. It also boasts a lovely south facing walled garden and seating area.

It can accommodate five guests in a spacious ground floor apartment where there are two large bedrooms, a lounge, dining rooms, well equipped galley kitchen. The bedrooms can be twin or superking or double & single – and extra beds/cots are available on request. There are 2 bathrooms.

It is available for short stays, weekly or monthly lets. There’s a minimum two night stay but if you’re staying for more than three nights, ask for a weekly rate as it is better value than multiple nights. It can also be booked with the 3 bedroom Upper Moatville to give a large property for bigger groups. And there’s Wi-Fi throughout. Finally, no pets and no smoking – but kids are very welcome!

Owner, Liana Steven, says: “Moatville has a key box but we will usually check guests in so we can give information on the property and our tips on transport and local eating places. Moatville is let as unserviced, but we can arrange daily, mid stay or weekly service, for additional charge. Please discuss your requirements at the time of booking.
