In 2023, we shared a blog on Argentum – then a newly published book by local author, James Leslie-Melville. Two years on, he has followed up with Fortuna.

James is married with three children and lives in Newburgh. His working career spans four decades – from time in the UK timber and banking industries to his current business where he provides advisory services to small companies.

He wrote his first book during lockdowns – and loved writing so much, we has followed up another historical fiction tale.

Fortuna launched this summer and tells the story of two dice created by Zeus – travelling down the centuries to the modern day. The dice pass through the hands of famous gamblers, influencing the outcome of major events across Europe.

 

James explains that there’s an element of Scottish interest, saying: “One chapter tells the story of Robert the Bruce taking inspiration from the dice as he returns from defeat in his campaign for Scottish independence.”
