Cupar: Number 1 in Scotland!

Cupar has been listed as Scotland’s Number 1most in-demand rural location for property buyers” – and second in the the whole of the UK.

The listing – just published by Right Move, the UK’s number one property portal – highlights:

There are some serious country houses on the outskirts of this ancient town in east Scotland, and its location just ten miles or so from the glorious east coast is hard to beat. Alongside farmhouses and stone-built cottages, Cupar offers affordable houses and flats in the vibrant town centre. Commuter trains to Edinburgh take just over an hour.

In the week when the town’s new retail park is opening for business – and shop fitters are busy in the town making ready available units – the news is a great boost for Cupar and district.

Andrew Thomson, Chair of CuparNow’s Steering Group, says: “Almost all property companies highlight the transport links that make Cupar an ideal home for those looking to commute, but the last 20 months have changed many people’s thinking – enabling them to look at what Right Move describe as a life-changing move.” Andrew adds: “Cupar’s town is vibrant and, through CuparNow, we are working hard to make more people more aware of all that the town has to offer at the same time as supporting multiple groups and initiatives to benefit our wider community.

Bill Pagan, Chair of the town’s development trust, echoes Andrew’s comments, saying: “We are a caring community … something that is so important, especially in this time of Covid recovery. The town is punching above its weight in many ways. The Trust recognises that over the last two years, Cupar & District – the town itself and our rural district of some 40 villages – is being recognised and appreciated more than ever.” Bill explains: “This is not only through collaborations of organisations and businesses that are driving unique and exciting approaches to community events and activities but also as a result of Cupar being the UK’s only digital improvement district. CuparNow has built a combined audience that tops 50,000 and their levels of engagement and interaction are putting Cupar on the map as never before.

Jim Hair, Chair of ABCD, the Association of Businesses in Cupar & District, came to Cupar to set up his business 40 years ago and says: “I have been here ever since. I never regretted it for a moment. It looks like the rest of the UK is now wakening up to the fact that this is a great place to both live and work!
