A very warm and BIG welcome to Cupar’s first BIG Praise. This is a coming together of Cupar’s Churches to celebrate our town, community and all those who make Cupar their home. Today’s live music is from Celtic Worship. We hope you enjoy your day.

1 Amazing Grace
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me,
I once was lost, but now I’m found,
Was blind, but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come.
‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me;
His word, my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
2 Lay down my sword and shield.
I’m gonna lay down my sword and shield,
down by the riverside, x3
I’m gonna lay down my sword and shield,
down by the riverside, x2
[Chorus]
Well, I ain’t gonna study war no more
I ain’t gonna study war no more x5
I’m gonna walk with the prince of Peace
down by the riverside, x3
I’m gonna walk with the prince of Peace
down by the riverside, x2
[Chorus]
I’m gonna shake hands around the world
down by the riverside, x3
I’m gonna shake hands around the world
down by the riverside, x2
[Chorus]
I’m gonna lay down my burden
down by the riverside, x3
I’m gonna lay down my burden
down by the riverside, x2
[Chorus]
3 How great thou art
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
[Chorus]
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze
[Chorus]
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
[Chorus]
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
[Chorus]
4 My Jesus, my saviour
[Sung twice]
My Jesus, my saviour,
Lord, there is none like you;
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love.
My comfort, my shelter,
Tower of refuge and strength,
Let every breath, all that I am,
Never cease to worship you.
Shout to the Lord all the earth,
Let us sing power and majesty,
Praise to the King:
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
For ever I’ll love you,
For ever I’ll stand;
Nothing compares
To the promise I have in you.
5 Sing of the Lord’s goodness
Sing of the Lord’s goodness,
Father of all wisdom,
come to him and bless his name.
Mercy he has shown us,
his love is for ever,
faithful to the end of days.
[Chorus]
Come, then, all you nations,
sing of the Lord’s goodness,
Melodies of praise and thanks to God.
Ring out the Lord’s glory,
praise him with your music,
worship him and bless his name.
Power, he has wielded, honour is his garment,
risen from the snares of death.
His word he has spoken,
one bread he has broken,
new life he now gives to all.
[Chorus]
6 Our God reigns
How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him.
Who brings good news, good news.
Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness,
[Chorus]
Our God reigns. Our God reigns.
Our God reigns. Our God reigns.
Our God reigns. Our God reigns.
You watchmen, Lift your voices joyfully as one,
About your king, your king!
See eye to eye, the Lord restoring Sion:
[Chorus]
Waste places of Jerusalem, break forth with Joy!
We are redeemed, redeemed!
The Lord has saved and comforted His people.
[Chorus]
Ends of the earth, see the salvation of our God!
Jesus is Lord, is Lord!
Before the nations he has bared his holy arm.
[Chorus]
7 Shine Jesus Shine
Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
[Chorus]
Shine, Jesus, shine,
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze,
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow,
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light.
Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
[Chorus]
As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me
[Chorus]
A very BIG thank you!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those involved in bringing this event – and the entire BIG Weekend programme – together.
It has been an extraordinary collaboration of more than 40 community associations, clubs, groups, organisations and societies – the ‘Cupar Forum‘ – that started planning this and other events last November.
A particular vote of thanks should go to Raymond Young, Secretary of Castlehill Community Association, who has steered the forum through the months. Raymond has built on the work undertaken by Bill Pagan, Chair of Cupar Development Trust, who oversaw the coming together of the forum partners for the delivery of the Celebration Weekends that were delivered in 2021 and 2022. We very much hope the third weekend in September is now a permanent fixture in Cupar’s calendar. Pop it in your diaries for 2024!
Our support – through the pages and channels of CuparNow – is only enabled through the support of the town’s business community. Their funding of our work allows us to support so much across Cupar & Country. Please show your appreciation by supporting them whenever you can.
Thank you … and, when the time comes, safe home.
