CuparNow KnowHow – Mint Brows
It is great to be able to showcase the ‘know how’ of businesses in Cupar. The latest in our series features Mint Brows on Bonnygate.
Louise Lawson – Lou – describes herself as a “visionary professional hairdressing & permanent makeup artist“.
She has more than two decades of experience in hairdressing, having run her own salon in Dundee for nine years. A Loreal colour specialist, Louise has over 30 master artist certificates in her crafts and made the final of the Loreal Colour Trophy in 2015. She gained a reputation for her work – for her customer care and her passion … and it is that passion that has led her to Cupar and to launch Mint Brows – Cosmetic Tattooing & Aesthetics.
Her creativity is what drives her: “I have always been that way since I was a child!” It was 2016 when she embarked more into the beauty side: “I began my journey in Yorkshire where I started by training in scalp micro-pigmentation which then led onto permanent makeup.” She adds: “I traveled back and forth for two years of studying and training with one of the world’s leading experts in micro-pigmentation, Goldeneye.”
Keep learning …
Louise sees the key to her success – anyone’s success – is learning: “Never stop learning, investing in the best equipment and mastering updated techniques.” In just three years, she completed advanced to master artist courses with leading artists from all over the world.
Her business offers all micro-pigmentation (except medical), micro-blading, pigment removal and dermal filler injections. That’s quite a mouthful – and we asked Louise how it might be better summed up: “I’d class myself as a permanent makeup artist.” She adds: “I have had an amazing career as a hairdresser and made life long friends through my work. I have developed my creative passion to become a cosmetic tattooist.“
In her own words, she says it has been “the most challenging journey both personally & practically” but also described it as “a blessing“, explaining: “I have never felt so happy, fulfilled, excited, focused & contented in all my working life.“
She lives with her teenage sons and cat, Sox. She had no plans to open another commercial outlet but explains: “I had such an overwhelming calling to do just that – and I am so happy to have chosen Cupar.”
Louise says that permanent make-up isn’t “just a job … it’s a passion” adding: “I love what I do because it changes lives. Seeing a client’s face, their tears of joy and their expressions when they realise they now have the look they’ve always wanted makes it all worthwhile.”
Unique in Scotland …
What sets her apart? “I specialise in hyper-realism brow tattooing. There are only a small handful of artist in the UK that offer this extremely bespoke technique and I am the only one in Scotland providing this highly skilled service.”
She works solo to ensure each of her clients has her complete attention at all times. And she cites her clients as a key inspiration: “I’d like to thank them all for their support over so many years. They are the best!”
As with all those who feature on our KnowHow showcases, we ask Louise what she’d recommend to anyone visiting Cupar for the first time – or for the first time in a long time: “I absolutely love this little town. It is so friendly, super-busy with an amazing sense of community. The independently run shops around the town are all so welcoming and helpful in catering to your needs & desires.”
