The final stage of the project to improve the heritage and orientation signage around Cupar’s town centre is complete. We took time to walk the 1.5 miles that links all of the panels, creating a Relive video to show the sign locations in the town …

The walk begins from the town’s free car park at Fluthers, heads to the Railway Station and Cupar’s Museum, onto Kirkgate and then through to the Bonnygate car park. We visit the new panel at the Mercat Cross and then walk along Bonnygate, cutting through to return to Fluthers via the final panel on Burnside.

Each panel features a newly created town centre street map (available for future community projects) as well as historic content that is relevant to each location. Just click on the image below to view the video …

All panels are linked through QR Codes, giving further information from web sites and the CuparNow social media channels.

The project has involved the effective collaboration of a significant number of individuals and organisations: Cupar Development Trust and Cupar Heritage worked closely with heritage consultants CMC Associates. They enlarged the Interpretative Plan Working Group to gain better local as well as wider professional knowledge … sharing knowledge, making suggestions and progressing actions. This benefited and guided the design work carried out by Dr. Mike Spearman and Sharyn Emslie of CMC and the fabrication work produced by Keith Salton of Signergy.

The project has received essential support. Thanks and appreciation go to:

• Fife Council – in particular grant funding, professional and practical help from Roads and Transport Services and Planning and Town Centre Development.
• Scotrail – for permitting the new sign and the lectern within the rail station car park.
• Cupar Old Parish Church – for their assistance when creating the lectern now sited on Kirkgate.
• The Lord Lyon – for the detail of the burgh crest.
