Countdown to the Big Tidy!

Can you help? Cupar Development Trust (CDT) are looking for volunteers to help at their ‘Big Tidy’ of Cupar next week.

Improvements to the appearance of the town centre was one of the key desires highlighted by Cupar’s residents in a community consultation run by the Trust over the last 18 months. The feedback helped to shape a Local Place Plan and Community Action Plan.

Tony Miklinski, chair of CDT, is keen that Cupar has a town centre worthy of its Royal Burgh status and would like to see as many people as possible helping to ensure the biggest impact on the town centre. Tony says: “If you see groups of volunteers out in high-viz vests next week, this clearly demonstrates the wonderful community spirit being channeled into keeping Cupar a beautiful and tidy place for residents and visitors alike.”

Those groups – collecting litter, weeding, tidying planters and deep cleaning the town centre’s bus stops – include volunteers from:

  • Cupar in Bloom
  • Cupar Rotary
  • Cupar Cubs
  • Cupar Youth Café
  • Cupar Y

Join them!

If you have some spare time and would like to dedicate it to the Big Tidy cause, there are:

  • Morning sessions on Tuesday 10th and Friday 13th September
  • An evening session on Wednesday 11th September

Tony adds: “It’s not too late to join in … why not lend us a hand?

If you are able to help, please email Mrs Armstrong at the Trust via this link to get details.

Cash Prizes!

Calling all kids! The Trust is also running a competition for primary and nursery schools in the town, to design a “Keep Cupar Tidy” poster – with a £100 prize for the winning school and £50 for the winning pupil. The entries promise to be FANTASTIC and will be judged at 10.30am on the Friday 13th at Castlehill Community Centre. We will be sharing some of the entries too.

Looking good …

In addition, Cupar Development Trust has also organised a scheme to help with cleaning up and ongoing maintenance of some buildings in the own centre – enabling property owners to improve their frontage, guttering and roofs.

Fife Council staff and departments will also be busy helping with the Big Tidy by completing extra weeding, a deep clean of the pavements and gutters and washing down street furniture and road signs.

Cupar Development Trust would like to acknowledge the kind support from the Bruce Charitable Trust, who have provided funding for community projects in and around Cupar.
