Why Cupar? One family’s story …

Cupar is a fantastic town – for living, working and visiting. We were touched when one family – recently arrived – reached out to CuparNow to share their story on why they chose Cupar as their new home.

The family’s Mum wrote: “I wish I had found your blog “why choose Cupar” as we spent a year deliberating and doing our own research before deciding that we could find everything we wanted in Cupar!” Here is her story …

As a young family cooped up in a tiny city flat during lockdown, we were looking for a rural family friendly town with access to beaches, cycling trails, forest nurseries, good schools with tons of green space and a choice of social sports clubs for both us and our kids.

We were grateful for all the online information about Cupar when everything was closed during the lockdowns. It definitely helped us decide to move here over the other places we were considering in Scotland.

When we eventually visited we loved the community orchards and town fruit trees planted by community groups and the schools.

Our kids loved picking the apples and plums along the river walk. We couldn’t get over how many kids teams we saw running, playing rugby and football with parents coaching, watching and cheering!

After spending a lot of time as the parent taxi service we wanted lots of local clubs and a pool that we could walk to. We are so lucky to have sailing, horse-riding and watersports so close by as well.

Since moving a year ago, we have found everyone so friendly and welcoming . With the sunny micro-climate, we have spent so much time outdoors out on the gravel trails , exploring the forests and wide open beaches.

We weren’t expecting to discover so many gems of farm shops, local cafés, and restaurants both hidden down the medieval alleyways of Cupar and out on our cycles.

When we have to commute for work it’s very straightforward, 60 minutes to Edinburgh with a cup of tea on the train or there is the sleeper for commuting to London.

Any active families who are considering moving for a better lifestyle, we would definitely give Cupar a massive thumbs up! It’s a lovely place to call home.
