Hazel started hairdressing at the age of 15. She says: “In 2005, I was given an opportunity to open up my own salon and I jumped at the chance.” Contemporary Salon launched in March of that year.

Hazel has built “a very small friendly team” and explains what she sees as the salon’s unique offering, saying: “We make everyone feel special from the minute they enter the salon up until they leave.” She adds: “We also like to keep in touch personally in between appointments.”

The salon is at 188 Bonnygate. About to mark their 16th anniversary, Hazel says: “Over the years we have built up a very loyal client base. They choose us because of our highly experienced stylists who give 100% commitment to giving a professional service in all aspects of hairdressing.”

Over the last 15 years, what have been the most important decisions? Hazel says that it is essential to keep investing in the business, saying: “Our newly refurbished salon is modern and light. It provides clients with a lovely atmosphere.”

But it is the service which is key: “We work hard to make sure your experience isn’t a good one … it’s a great one! From a friendly welcome with complimentary drinks always available – we pride ourselves on the service we provide each and every client.”

Hazel takes her inspiration from all those who run their own businesses. We asked what she sees as her greatest achievement in business: “Being picked two years for ‘Best Fife Salon’ runner-up and the Best Retail runner-up in the Fife Business Awards is a real highlight. We were in the top four on both occasions.”

She adds: “Our Business is based on the belief that our clients’ needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs. It is our mantra that – for those who experience The Contemporary Salon – we promise you will want to come back.”
