Luvians – Upcoming Tasting Events
Despite not being able to run the in-house tasting events, Luvians has adapted and innovated and are delivering their Tastings by Zoom.? Here is a list of what is coming up – some great looking events and all from the safety of your own home.
How does Luvians do Tastings by Zoom?
How to Book
Friday November 6th – UK Sherry Week w/ Lustau – ?45
(includes 4 x 250ml bottles of sherry, 1 x 50ml bottle of PX & 1 x 20ml bottle of Glenrothes Wine Merchant?s Cask Lustau 1992 ? a ?200 whisky that is frankly worth coming to the tasting for all on its own!)
At Luvians we are huge sherry lovers, both as a complex, varied and outstandingly good value wine style, and as the source of some of the greatest whisky barrels in the world. We will be looking at both sides of this in our UK Sherry Week tasting, sampling 5 stunning wines from one of our favourite sherry producers, Lustau, as well as sampling a stunning Glenrothes whisky that spent all 24 of it?s years maturing in a Lustau oloroso cask.
Amontillado Los Arcos (250ml)
Oloroso Almacinesta Pata de Gallina (250ml)
East India Cream (250ml)
Pedro Ximenez San Emilio (50ml)
Glenrothes Wine Merchant?s Cask Lustau (20ml)
Friday November 13th – Spain Beyond Rioja w/ Eat-Drink Spain ? ?60
(includes 1 x 750ml bottle of cava, 5 x 250ml bottles of wine & 3 Spanish nibbles ? ideal for a couple to share)
Having looked at a series of remarkable Rioja wines last month & some stunning sherries the previous week, we complete our Spanish focus by looking at some of the finest regions and styles outwith those most famous names. Kicking things off with a world class sparkler, we will then work our way from the cool North West to the sun baked south, trying a few classic food pairings along the way.
Friday November 20th – Compass Box Turns 20 w/ James Saxon – ?30
(includes 6 x 20ml miniatures & the Compass Box Yearbook)
We are delighted to welcome back James Saxon, St Andrews alumnus and former president of the Quaich Society, now the whiskymaker at one of the world?s finest whisky blenders, Compass Box. We are their 2nd oldest customers & apparently only because Cupar is after Edinburgh on the train from London, so it is our pleasure to help them celebrate their 20th birthday. The tasting will feature 3 of their core releases and 3 of our favourite limited editions, including the newly launched 20th Anniversary edition of Peat Monster ? Arcana.
Friday November 27th ? Time at the Bar, A Collection of Rare & Disappearing Drams – ?75
(includes 6 x 20ml miniatures)
Quite simply a collection rare, old, or simply impossible to find whiskies – we?ll just give you the line up and leave it at that. Old Pulteney 17yo, Carn Mor Imperial 30yo Single Cask (Cask Strength Boubon), Yamazaki 18yo, Signatory Dalmore 22yo Single Cask (Cask Strength Sherry), Ardbeg Kelpie & George T Stagg Bourbon 2018 Release.
Friday December 4th ? The Spirits of Christmas w/ Julie Lewis of Speciality – ?45 (or buy both Christmas tastings for ?100)
(includes 7 x 20ml miniatures + 2 mixers)
Julie is one of the best & most knowledgeable spirits pros in Scotland so we are delighted that she is introducing a series of ?must have? spirits for the festive season. There will be whisky of course, but also cognac, rum & a couple of surprises
Friday December 11th ? The Christmas Day Wine Collection w/ Cathy Swift of Metzendorff – ?65 (or buy both Christmas tastings for ?100)
(includes 1 x 375ml champagne, 5 x 250ml bottles of wine + 4 festive nibbles)
We are very sad that we won?t be able to host our now traditional Christmas Food & Wine pairing night that has become such a fixture in our events program, but that doesn?t mean we can?t try some truly special wines with a couple of appropriate nibbles! Join Cathy Swift as she guides you from the bubbly delights of Ayala champagne, through a series of wines that make the perfect partners for whatever you are planning to serve on Chrismas day, from salmon to ham, turkey to roast beef, before finishing off with some delicious Fonseca port.
